How Often Can You Get Microneedling?

Microneedling

Microneedling is a powerful skin rejuvenation treatment that can repair, renew, and restore damaged skin. By scheduling multiple treatments throughout the year, you can achieve smoother, brighter, and firmer skin. If you’re wondering how often you can get microneedling, the experts at Allure Laser & Med Spa in Tinley Park, IL are here to answer your questions.

How Often Can You Get Microneedling?

Microneedling treatments are personalized according to your skin condition, preferences, and cosmetic goals. Nevertheless, this treatment can be safely performed about once a month, or every six weeks. This treatment frequency works for most skin types, although some candidates may require more or fewer treatments depending on their skin condition and treatment goals.

Because microneedling removes dead skin cells and creates micro-injuries, you’ll need to wait for your skin to heal and regenerate before scheduling another treatment. Our team will work closely with you to create a personalized treatment plan so you can make the most of your appointments. We will carefully assess your skin quality and listen to your concerns so that we can determine the best frequency for your microneedling appointments.

Initial Series of Treatments

Are you getting skin rejuvenation treatments for the first time? If so, we may recommend that you undergo an initial series of treatments scheduled closer together. With two to three skin rejuvenation treatments that are spaced about four weeks apart, you can kick-start your body’s response to the treatment and get your desired results much sooner.

Taking into account the healing or waiting time in between your appointments, we advise that you set aside about four months to complete your initial series of treatments. Microneedling is not as aggressive as other types of skin rejuvenation treatments, and it gently works to restore and repair your skin. To see what this treatment truly has to offer, you’ll need to accept that it takes time and multiple sessions to achieve your desired results.

Maintenance Treatments

Once you have completed the initial series of treatments, you may then visit our medical spa for maintenance appointments. These treatments may be spaced six to eight weeks apart. The results of your maintenance treatments will build gradually, and you may continue to see visible improvements in the months that will follow.

The total number of treatments you’ll require before seeing significant results will vary based on your age, skin condition, and health. Generally, you can expect to require up to eight sessions before seeing visible improvements on moderate to severe issues such as deep scarring. You may see superficial results after just one treatment session, but giving your skin enough time to heal before scheduling follow-up treatments is necessary to achieve long-lasting, impressive results.

How Does the Treatment Work?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that helps rejuvenate and repair damaged skin. The treatment works by activating and boosting your body’s natural collagen and elastin production. These two proteins are necessary to maintain the structure of supple, youthful-looking skin. Additionally, aside from kickstarting new collagen production, the treatment triggers your body’s natural healing response, allowing for new skin cells to regenerate and replace older skin cells.

Collagen induction therapies are performed using a device with tiny needles that create micro-injuries in the skin. These tiny wounds kickstart the skin rejuvenation process, triggering the production of collagen and elastin. Skin rejuvenation treatments are fairly simple and straightforward, but there are still a few steps involved in the overall treatment process. Here’s what you can expect:

Initial Consultation

During your initial appointment, we will listen to your cosmetic concerns and examine your skin condition. We may ask about your general health history, the skin care products you use, and what are your skincare habits. Our team will listen to your treatment expectations and desired outcomes.

Once we have determined that you are a good candidate for your desired treatment, we will then provide you with pre-treatment guidelines so you can prepare.

For at least 24 hours before your session, we recommend the following preparation:

  • Stop using retinol and alcohol-based products
  • Avoid blood-thinning medication
  • Do not wear cosmetics
  • Keep your skin clean

Treatment Session

On the day of your appointment, we will cleanse the treatment areas and apply a topical numbing agent. Once your skin is sufficiently numb, we can then start your treatment. A small device with tiny needles is placed against your skin. This device will create micro-injuries that will stimulate skin healing and collagen production.

During this part of the treatment process, you will not feel any pain or discomfort. The areas near your lips and under-eye will not be in contact with the device. Our team will make sure that you feel relaxed and pampered throughout your session. Before finishing your treatment, we will apply a calming serum.

How Long Do Treatment Sessions Take?

Skin rejuvenation treatments are highly convenient and can be performed quickly. You can expect your treatment session to last about 30 minutes or less. The size of the area to be treated determines the overall duration, so if you intend to get skin rejuvenation treatments in larger areas of your body aside from the face, you may expect a longer session.

Is There Downtime?

After your appointment, you’ll notice an inflammatory reaction in your skin, and this lasts anywhere from 12 to 48 hours. During this initial healing period, we recommend that you avoid direct sun exposure and keep your skin protected with mineral sunscreen. However, there’s no downtime required and you should be able to attend to your daily activities as usual.

When Will You See the Results?

Skin rejuvenation treatments offer many benefits such as skin tightening, brightening, and fading of acne scars. After your initial treatment, you may see immediate benefits, such as a more radiant and glowing complexion. However, the most significant results from your treatment may take up to six weeks to develop. The reason why you need to wait is that your body takes time to kickstart the production of new collagen, which is responsible for healthy-looking skin.

In between your treatments, we recommend that you take good care of your skin and avoid using harsh skincare products. While we all love to see immediate results, the long-term results of your skin rejuvenation treatments are worth the wait. With collagen induction treatments, it’s important to care for your skin and wait for it to completely heal so you can achieve the best results.

What Issues Can You Treat?

Acne Scars

If you have suffered from chronic acne in your younger years, then you may be dealing with flat or pitted scars that affect the overall texture and appearance of your skin. The good news is that collagen induction treatments can help fade and minimize your acne scars. Acne scars develop due to the lack of enough collagen in the skin during the healing process.

When you get skin rejuvenation treatments that cause micro-injuries in the skin, your body tends to produce more collagen in the treated areas. The boost in collagen production helps strengthen the underlying structure of your skin, and it can also smooth out your skin texture and minimize the appearance of acne scars.

Skin Laxity and Fine Lines

With age, we tend to have less collagen in our skin. This results in the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and loose skin. If you are concerned about skin laxity on your face and neck, collagen induction treatments can help restore the firmness of your skin and make you look younger.

Hyperpigmentation

Do you have an uneven skin tone? If so, you may need skin rejuvenation treatments that stimulate new skin cell growth and accelerate cell turnover. Aside from boosting collagen production for firmer skin, our rejuvenating treatments can also improve your skin tone by minimizing the appearance of age spots and hyperpigmentation. The result is a smoother, healthy-looking appearance. You can achieve these benefits without harsh chemicals or aggressive lasers.

Restore and Repair Your Skin

If you have superficial skin concerns such as acne scars, texture, and uneven skin tone, you may benefit from collagen-induction treatments. By getting the right number and frequency of treatments, it’s possible to gently repair your skin without the need for invasive processes and harsh treatments. Are you ready to improve your skin?
