What is Micro-Needling?
Micro-Needling is a treatment designed to help repair damaged skin. This procedure is particularly effective for treating aging skin and to help break down scar tissue that may have built up due to acne or other skin conditions. Micro-Needling also stimulates the cells in the lower layers of the skin to create new collagen and elastin.
What is Micro-Needling Used For?
Micro-Needling is used for a wide variety of skin conditions including acne scarring, dry, rough skin, stretch marks, and fine lines and wrinkles. Any skin condition related to texture issues will benefit from micro-needling.
What Happens During a Micro-Needling Treatment?
During a micro-needling treatment, the physician or Registered Nurse will begin by applying a numbing cream to enhance patient comfort. The device used for micro-needling treatments looks very similar to a writing pen. Where the end of the pen would normally be, there is a tiny group of super-fine needles (12 in total.) These tiny needles are so closely grouped that they can penetrate the skin at the same time. The very small openings made by these needles are the skin’s signal to begin breaking down scar tissue and replacing it with healthy, smooth new skin. The process is enhanced by the production of new collagen and elastin, as this helps to fill in depressed areas of the face. Once the treatment is completed, the face will be gently cleansed and a soothing cream applied.
Is There Any Downtime After a Micro-Needling Treatment?
There is usually no downtime after a micro-needling treatment. In fact, most people return to work or resume their usual routine as soon as their treatment is over. The skin may appear red and slightly swollen for a day or two but generally looks no worse than a minor sunburn. Should the client wish to conceal this all that is needed is a light cover up with make-up.
