Chemical Peels: 3 of Our Favorites

Chemical peels are a great way to clean up a variety of different skin issues. From uneven pigmentation to long-lasting acne scarring, we recommend people use chemical peels to address these and other highly visible skin problems.

While there are many different ways to address skin-related issues, chemical peels are safe and can even be performed in the comfort of our office. Also, the downtime with peels is far less than someone might experience with other, more invasive treatments. Some of these more aggressive techniques can involve many days or even a couple of weeks of healing time.

Generally, the controlled “damage” that a chemical peel does to a person’s skin is minor, and it is also necessary to provoke the body to undergo a normal healing response. Yet, the limited downtime resulting from certain types of chemical peels is perfect if someone does not want to have a long recovery period. With that being said, the following are three of our favorite chemical peels.

Light Peels

The first of the chemical peels that we list among our favorites is the light peel. This type may be used to address issues with dry skin, minor acne, uneven pigmentation and problems involving fine wrinkles.

Deeper Peels

Another of our favorite chemical peels is the deeper kind. As the name suggests, these are best for issues that are deeper within the skin, such as acne scarring, sun damage, and common signs of aging. The deeper the peel, the longer the downtime. However, there is still less downtime than what you would experience with other cosmetic treatments.

Micro-Peels

Our third favorite kind of peel is the Micro-Peel. To put it simply, this peel basically combines a chemical peel treatment with microdermabrasion. The microdermabrasion part of the process is usually done first in order to remove the old and dead skin cells before performing the peel treatment.

Since professional peels work by causing the skin to provoke a normal healing response, it is important to realize that this is an excellent way to get the skin to produce more collagen and elastin proteins. These proteins help to lift and tighten the new layer of skin that emerges once the peel is over. The end result is brighter, healthier skin, fewer blemishes, and a youthful glow.
