Microbdermabrasion Q&A

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion facial is a non-surgical treatment for problem skin. It is often used in clients who have acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. The microdermabrasion process encourages the skin to start making new collagen. The collagen then helps fill in depressions, plump up fine lines, fill in acne scars, and correct other issues like small recesses in the skin.

How Does Microdermabrasion Treatment Work?

The microdermabrasion treatment is performed on a clean and dry face. The small microdermabrasion facial device is placed gently on the skin to distribute tiny aluminum oxide crystals. The ultra-fine crystals gradually exfoliate the dead and damaged skin, which is then gently suctioned off the face. This process leaves the lower layers of skin exposed. These undamaged layers of skin are fresh and new, giving the skin a healthy, glowing appearance.

Is Any Recovery Time Required?

No, in fact, microdermabrasion can even be done during a lunch hour if desired. A protective cream with sunblock will be applied after the treatment.

How is Microdermabrasion Different Than Dermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is the less invasive type of treatment. With dermabrasion, the skin shows obvious swelling and redness which may last up to two weeks for some clients. With microdermabrasion, it usually takes a few days or less to have a beautiful result. Dermabrasion is appropriate for the more serious skincare issues, but microdermabrasion works well for many of today’s most common skincare concerns.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

This differs for each client and for each skin issue that is being addressed. The majority of clients see a significant difference in skin quality and appearance after two to three sessions, although it may take up to five sessions to see a dramatic change. Many clients choose up to ten sessions to achieve the results they desire to see.
